Aviva has hired Leah Ramoutar as environmental sustainability director from Phoenix Group.
Ramoutar spent more than 14 years at Phoenix, most recently as head of climate and nature risk.
She is also a chartered accountant and previously worked at KPMG for more than four years.
In her new role, which she will begin later this month, Ramoutar will lead Aviva’s ‘climate centre of excellence and environment hub’, and play a role in delivering the insurance and asset management giant’s climate agenda.
Aviva announced in 2021 that it has ambitions to become net zero by 2040. It aims to cut the carbon intensity of its investments by 25% by 2025, and by 60% by 2030.
At the end of June, Aviva Group had assets under management of £358bn. Its large asset base suggests that significant investments will be made into ESG-related areas over the coming years.
Group director of sustainability Claudine Blamey said Ramoutar would be ‘instrumental’ in Aviva delivering on its climate agenda.
Ramoutar said, ‘Aviva is well known for having a market-leading approach to sustainability and a strong track record on climate action. This role is an exciting opportunity for me to contribute to the important work already under way.’
